Join us for The Townshend Studio Artist Series, an exciting programme of talks and workshops, where our resident artists share their creative practice and visitors can encounter instruments from the collection first hand.

WORKING WITH LIMITATION: Embracing limitation by writing to brief
Walk through LAMBERT’s creative process and how she set and used parameters during her residency at the Townshend Studio to write and produce songs.
In the workshop, LAMBERT will explore how limitations and time pressure can generate unexpected lyrical and musical ideas. Through a variety of writing exercises and production techniques, participants will experiment with pre-existing texts, questions and synth limitations as starting points for songwriting.
Participants will receive a list of limitations to respond to during the session and are encouraged to create a song/composition either individually or in pairs. The workshop encourages participants to work quickly, trust their instincts and embrace curiosity and play - exploring how limitations, accidents and experimentation can open up new creative directions.
