Joan Littlewood's musical entertainment "Oh! What a Lovely War!" by Theatre Workshop, Charles Chilton, Gerry Raffles and members of the original cast. Title suggested by Ted Allan.
"Oh! What a Lovely War" is a sharp anti-war satire that holds a dark mirror to the folly of World War I, and all war. Through the jarring juxtaposition of cheerful music-hall tunes like "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" against the political games, personal stories and stark
statistics of the slaughter, it exposes war as a cynical, profit-driven enterprise. A landmark of political theatre, this groundbreaking 1963 stage musical, born from Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop, was later immortalised in Richard Attenborough's acclaimed 1969 film.
This amateur production of "Oh! What a Lovely War" is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd.
